The Effectiveness of Bibliotherapy on improving satisfaction with body image and reducing cognitive biases among a sample of female adolescents
Abstract
The study aimed to detect the effectiveness of bibliotherapy in improving body image and reducing cognitive biases in a sample of adolescent girls. The study sample consisted of 30 girls students, who were randomly distributed into two groups. To achieve the objectives of the study, two scales were used to measure satisfaction with body image, and cognitive biases, and a student's bibliotherapy manual. The results showed an improvement in body image post-test scores among experimental group in comparison with the control group. The results also showed that the experimental cognitive biases post-test scores decreased from high level to a moderated level. Finally, the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the body image follow up and post-test scores, while there were statistically significant differences between the cognitive biases follow up and post-test scores.
