The Predictive Ability of Alexithymia in Internet Addiction among Yarmouk University Students

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the predictive ability of Alexithymia in Internet Addiction among University Students. The study population consists of all University Students which register in Yarmouk University, during the first semester of academic year (2020/2021) 1396 students involved in the sample of this study, selected by the convenience sampling method. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample members about the level of alexithymia due to the variables of sex and school year, while there were statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample members about the level of alexithymia due to the college variable, it was found that the level of alexithymia among students of human faculties is higher than Students of scientific colleges. Also, there were statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample members about the level of Internet addiction due to the school year variable, it was found that the level of Internet addiction among students for the second year is higher than the rest of the other. While, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample members about the level of Internet addiction due to the variables of sex and colleges. Finaly, there is a positive correlation between the level of alexithymia and Internet addiction. The high level of alexithymia among undergraduate students at Yarmouk University leads to an increase in their level of Internet addiction.
